Remote control toys can be a great way of getting your kids out and about in the fresh air, as well as being fun indoors on a rainy day. Kids can race their friends who also have remote control cars or they can play tactical games with remote control helicopters. Whichever way you look at it, these toys make great Christmas presents and provide hours of entertainment without being glued to the TV. Below are our top 4 remote control toys for Christmas 2011.
Tomy Speed Stunt Remote Control GX Buggy
The Tomy Speed Stunt Remote Control GX Buggy definitely deserves it’s place in our top Xmas toys for boys list. It has won awards including the Toy Retailer Association’s Dream Toys for 2011 and is also bags of fun for boys of all ages (including adults). As the controller uses a special frequency, all his mates can play with their GX Buggies at the same time without interference. Words cannot describe how cool this car is when it comes to flips and tricks, so the video below should give you an idea of the sorts of things this remote control car is capable of:-
Syma S026 CHINOOK Cargo US Boeing 3ch RC Helicopter
The Chinook Cargo Transport Helicopter was first put into production in the 1960′s and is one of the few helicopters designed at the time that is still used on the front line today. This is a miniature version of it! Remote control helicopters are great fun and can require skill and determination to fly them. However, this one is fairly easy to control, but is made from high grade materials which is ideal for beginners who are likely to crash! Here it is in action:-
Rampage Cross Country 1/12 Radio Controlled Scale Monster Truck
Remember how cool monster trucks were when you were a kid? Now kids can have their own, not full size mind, but a remote controlled version. This remote control monster truck is great for kids of all ages and is superb outside. A perfect gift for sons, grandsons and nephews aged 4 and above, this present is sure to keep them entertained on Christmas day. A rugged vehicle that’s fantastic both on and off road.
Cars 2 Radio Controlled Lightning McQueen Car
If you’ve got a little boy in your life then you should be aware of the hit Disney kids film Cars. Cars has been a huge success, winning several awards including “Best Animated Feature Film.” Disney Cars toys are likely to feature on most 3-4+ year olds Christmas lists this year. Angry Birds
Angry Birds hit the world by storm in 2010, as a highly addictive, child friendly animated game that first started out as an app for the iPhone. Now in 2011, Angry Birds has been rolled out to the Android operating system, is available to play online and on CD-ROM. The premise of the game is simple – you have to fire your angry birds out of a catapult with the aim of hitting all the green pigs who have stolen your birds eggs. However, these green pigs are usually surrounded by various structures that you have to knock over to get to them. We love Angry Birds because it’s such a colourful game, with funny sound effects. It offers a real challenge based on skill, physics and logic. Angry Birds makes it into our must-have Christmas Gifts for kids.
Angry Birds Knock on Wood Board Game
Bring the popular game to life with this Angry Birds Knock on Wood board game. Unlike the virtual game, this board game is suitable for 2-4 players so is ideal for playing with friends and family. Here’s what it looks like in the flesh:-
Angry Birds (PC CDROM)
Now this game comes with a warning… if you buy this for your kids, you have to let them play on it! Once you try it yourself it becomes quite addictive. The PC version of the game has over 300 levels of exciting gameplay. That’s around 4 times the amount that are available to play online! This challenging game should keep them amused for a while!
Gear4 Angry Birds Helmet Pig 2.1 Speaker Dock for iPod/iPhone
Ok so technically this one isn’t a toy but it’s a fab bit of tech for boys who love Angry Birds. Based on the iconic green pig from the game, this docking station has a handy remote control

Scooters & Accessories
Scooters are a must have present for boys this Christmas.
Madd Gear MGP 2011 Base Scooter
My 11 year old nephew and his mates are really into scooters at the moment. They always want to be out at the skate park or outside the house performing tricks. If there’s one brand that they can’t get enough of it’s Madd Gear. If they haven’t got a Madd Gear scooter, they want one as they are really strong and durable which makes them perfect for tricks. This particular Madd Gear scooter has been given 5/5 by reviewers on Amazon. Although it is a bit more expensive than some models, it is designed to last a lot longer than other cheaper scooters.
Blazer Pro Aluminium Core 100mm Scooter Wheel White/Green
Being able to customise not just scooters but bikes and skateboards is a big thing for kids nowadays. Changing the wheels on a scooter can made a big difference to the look of it. This metalic green and white wheel by Blazer is only around £13 offering a cheap way of changing a scooter without buying a completely new one.
Finger Whips Micro Finger Scooter
If you’re looking for a stocking filler for a boy then this micro finger scooter is ideal. It’s small and under £5 and will keep him amused for a while. This particular one includes 3 lots of interchangeable wheels (yes customisation again) and some stickers. If you’re wondering how on earth you use one of these – check out this video:-
Tech toys
Although the tablet PC has been in existence for a while now, 2011 has been the year of it going mainstream. Price tags on adult tablet PC’s can be a bit hefty and the devices themselves can be slightly too big for kids (plus you would be forever worrying about them dropping it and getting dirty fingers on the screen)! Interactive toys are a great gift for kids, as they are fun and can promote learning. Included in our best tech toys for boys are two touch screen tablets specifically designed for kids – the VTech InnoTab and LeapFrog LeapPad.
The Innotab Interactive Learning Tablet would make an excellent main Christmas present for 4 to 9 year old boys. It’s fun and innovative allowing your child to play games, watch videos, view photos, draw plus much more. Unlike the LeapFrog, the InnoTab can play mp3′s which is an added bonus.

LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Tablet (Green)
The main rival to the InnoTab, the LeapPad is smaller in size and is a great educational present, which allows kids to mimic the adults iPads and other tablets. Unlike the InnoTab, the LeapPad has a camera and video recorder built in which makes it a bit more multipurpose.

Now for those of you asking which is better, the LeapPad or the InnoTab, the following video should help you to decide which tablet is best for your kids needs:-
Lego
Lego is one of the toys that has survived as a childhood favourite for quite some years now. Popular with both boys and girls, lego makes a great Christmas gift. The great thing about lego is that if your kid is a fan of a particular film e.g. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones etc then they can collect the lego kits for objects in that film. Here are couple of our favourites:-
LEGO Star Wars 7929 : The Battle of Naboo
Much like Lego, Star Wars is a timeless classic and what better scene to react than the Battle of Naboo. Included in this set are plenty of lego men to build an army with – 8 battle droids, 2 pilot droids, gungan soldier and best of all Jar Jar Binks. This kit is fun to build and even more fun to play with.
