Gifts for husbandsGifts for your dadGifts for your mum
When it comes to buying birthday presents for boyfriends and husbands you can’t go wrong with gadgets. We love them.. if it’s shiny, beeps, takes batteries and has buttons it’s got a very good chance of being happily received. However, the problem facing those buying gadget gifts for boyfriends and husbands at the moment is the sheer amount of choice which can be overwhelming for the non technical.
So, to help we’ve picked out a few of the hottest gadget gift ideas for early 2012.
The Tablet PC
Never before has a piece of tech been coveted by so many. Ever since the launch of the original iPad back in 2010 the tablet PC market has literally exploded with big brands like Samsung, Motorola, Blackberry, LG, Acer and Asus all introducing new models in 2011. This makes the selection process tricky however two of these tablets have emerged as market leaders, the iPad 2 and the Asus Transformer
.
If you’re budget won’t stretch to one of the above there are other cheaper options available to you such as the excellent A1CS range of tablets that represent fantastic value for money.
The Amazing Kindle Now Amazing Value
It’s important to recognise that the Kindle is not attempting to compete with the tablet PC’s above. Instead, it’s focused solely on making the experience of reading books in a digital format as authentic as possible which it categorically succeeds in doing. In addition, the battery life is simply staggering and can last up to a month on a single charge and the Kindle can store up to 1400 books but perhaps the most impressive thing about the Kindle is that you can now buy the non-3G Kindle from Amazon for less than £90 with the 3G enabled version now available for under £150
.
The Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo manage something that the other gaming platforms struggle to achieve, they make gaming systems that appeal to both kids and adults alike. The Nintendo 3DS is no exception and is the latest in the massively successful DS series of handheld gaming devices.
However, the 3DS has a new trick up it’s sleeve.. it’s ability to display 3D images without the need for 3D glasses. Admittedly, I was a little sceptical myself prior to trying out the 3DS but the effect is really very impressive and really adds to the gaming experience. Importantly, there’s a growing library of games including the newly released Super Mario 3D Land (no Nintendo is complete without Super Mario!). The 3DS itself is currently priced at just under £130
but with the Playstation Vita
looming on the horizon we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a price cut early in 2012.
The Netbooks Not Dead
Since Tablet PC’s hit the market many people have considered the Netbook a doomed device. However, we feel that it still has a place in the market and is the ideal format for those on the move that need a device that does not restrict their productivity. Tablet’s are great on the tube or for web browsing but when you arrive at your destination after a long drive and have thirty emails you need to reply to in ten minutes you’re still going to find it a lot quicker to do that on a Netbook.
And if you’re going to buy a Netbook for your boyfriend’s birthday you need to ensure that it has one of the newer second generation dual core processors from either Intel or AMD. There’s very little difference in price between the first generation and second generation processors but there’s a big difference in the performance.
Our current pick of the crop has to be the Asus 1011pxdc which is available for just over £200 and comes packing the latest Intel N570 processor. This really is the best value netbook at the time of writing this post.
If you’re looking for something slightly bigger and more powerful then you can’t go far wrong with the Lenovo IdeaPad S205 which features AMD’s new Fusion chipset.
